The first furniture collection by Eva Natasa.
LULA is about basic. It is about the right balance of materials, dimension and ergonomics. It is designed with Indonesian people and the contemporary living environment as the center of the process.
When Eva returned to live in her home country Indonesia after years abroad, she encountered many ‘wrong’ Indonesian made furniture. Most of them were not ergonomic, effective or sustainable. She decided she will not buy any furniture and designed all by herself. During her 11 months journey of researching and designing, she lived in an empty house, sat on the floor and used the cardboard boxes as tables.
She started by rediscovering the materials and production process in Indonesia. She went to various furniture factories and found out that most of the furniture was made without design thought, therefore wasting the precious materials. She also found out that most of the best materials were used for exported products, while Indonesian people were left with the choice of rejected export furniture (with the ergonomic that are not suitable with their physical, thus explained her ‘wrong’ furniture experience) or unsustainable furniture made from wood by-product and covered with various finishing.
Therefore she decided to create well-designed furniture with the best materials in Indonesia. LULA. Named after her first cat, because she thinks this collection looks like when it first came to her house: raw, proud and elegant.
All are handmade by local wood artisans, with a lot of attention to details.
